On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority of Ulaanbaatar City in November of this year, Vitens Evides International and the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority of Ulaanbaatar City are organizing an international conference that will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on November 18th.
USUG was established in 1959. At that time the organisation was providing drinking water and waste water services to some 150,000 residents. Nowadays, 50 years later, USUG has developed itself into a professional company, serving more than 1 million people.
Started in 2007, Vitens Evides International and the Ulaanbaatar Water Supply and Sewerage Authority are jointly engaged in a Water Operator Partnership. The general purpose of this WOP is to assist USUG to improve its performance and become financially healthy.
The purpose of the conference is to reflect on 50 years of development, to jointly explore the future challenges in Ulaanbaatar’s water supply and waste water sector, and to discuss the inputs of international organizations.
The development of water services in the peri-urban ger-areas will be a central theme during the conference, while other issues, such as the envisaged institutional reform of the public service sector, will be addressed as well.
During the day, a number of Mongolian as well as international speakers will present and reflect upon the projects implemented. The day will be chaired by mr. B. Purevjav (Director of USUG), Dr. Jan Hoffer (VEI), Mr. Ch. Bat (General manager of Ulaanbaatar) and mr. Ganbold (Vice Mayor of Ulaanbaatar).
Dr. Mels, project director of Vitens Evides International, will present the ongoing WOP and the envisaged results. Other Speakers include Mr. A. Sayed (resident representative of the World Bank in Mongolia), Mr. T. Ogura (deputy representative of JICA), mr. B. Karmacharya (representative of UN Habitat) and Mr. Myagmar (Head of Construction, Housing and Public Utility Policy Department).
