Project: Capacity Building in Sustainable Water Infrastructure Management in Mozambique Northern Region through a FIPAG - VEI Partnership. The overall objective of the project is to improve the capacity of FIPAG Northern Region (public water asset operator) in the field of sustainable water infrastructure development operation and maintenance.
Duration: 2011 - 2015
Population: Nampula has 472,000 inhabitants and Angoche 82,000 (2007 census data).

The water supply coverage in Nampula and Angoche is low, 62% and 32% respectively. Northern Mozambique needs to improve its water supply. Lack of organisational and staff capacity prohibit sustainable progress. A water supply capacity development partnership is required.

Central

    Project: The aims of improving the infrastructure in Chimoio, Gondola, Manica, Tete, Moatize, Dondo, Beira and Quelimane are:
    • To provide better drinking water quality and quantity.
    • Increased continuity of water supply (longer daily supply).
    • A wider coverage of the drinking water services.
    Duration: October 2009 - December 2012
    Population: The eight towns have a total population of about 1.5 million.
    Contract value: € 4 million

    Vitens Evides International is offering technical and management assistance for the drinking water infrastructure in eight towns in central Mozambique. Together with the Mozambican National Urban Water Investment and Asset Holding Fund (FIPAG) and the Netherlands’ Ministry of Development Cooperation, Vitens-Evides set up an autonomous regional water company that will provide its customers in these eight towns with a constant supply of sufficient, safe and affordable water. Vitens-Evides is also helping FIPAG to draw up a medium and long-term capital and operational expenditure plan and to develop practical investment projects aimed at expanding the infrastructure and improving services.

    South

    Project: Through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement Vitens Evides International provides technical assistance to the water companies for the towns of Chókwé, Inhambane, Maxixe and Xai-Xai in Mozambique. Vitens Evides International provides comprehensive support to all operatons of the partner water companies. The support includes assistance with the development of business plans and the implementation of management information, technical and financial administration systems. Vitens-Evides also offers support for the development of standard procedures for processes in the fields of production, distribution and sales. Another important part of the project involves on-the-job training at all levels, formal training courses, review and instruction, workshops and exposure visits.
    Duration: October 2003 - December 2012
    Population: The four towns have a combined population of about 500,000 inhabitants.
    Budget: € 2.7 million

    Vitens Evides International is in this arrangement partnering with both the Mozambican Asset Holding and Investment Fund (FIPAG) and the Netherlands’ Ministry of Development Cooperation. The PPP partnership with FIPAG aligned to an extensive investment programme financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) that finished in December 2009.
