Capacity building in water supply
This project includes a Water Operators Partnership (WOP) between the Surinaamse Waterleiding Maatschappij (SWM), Waternet (Amsterdam) and Vitens Evides International. Waternet is leading the project. The main activities in favour of the Surinaamsche Waterleiding Maatschappij (SWM) will take place in the coastal area of Suriname, including the city district of Paramaribo, parts of Wanica and Para, the district of Nickerie and the district Marowijne. The partnership aims to:
• Improve management skills, implement a Management Information System (MIS); optimize water services and reduce Non-Revenue Water, with a clear link towards network maintenance
• Improve water resources exploitation to avoiding over extraction of aquifers
• Increase knowledge about laboratory processes and necessary equipment; Improve individual capacity on water quality testing and analysis of results
• Raise awareness in communities and primary schools (in specific areas in the districts of Marowijne and Para) about the value of water resources and drinking water

|Population: SWM is responsible for service delivery to some 300,000 people through 63,905 household water connections.
