Da Nang
Project: Water Operator Partnership between Da Nang Water Supply Company, the municipal government of Da Nang and Vitens Evides International
Duration: 2007 – 2010
Population: 800,000 people
Budget: € 2.4 million
The project in Da Nang is intended to realise the sustainable management of the drinking water facilities in Da Nang. At the moment about 65% of the residents of the city have access to tap water provided by the Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO). Since the demand for water exceeds the capacity of the distribution system, the pressure drops regularly resulting in periods of intermittent supply. Vitens Evides International is working together with DAWACO to improve this situation.
From the technical objective we are reducing the non revenue water and improving the quality of the tap water. As for the management of the water company we are creating a financial management system, developing a client registration system an introducing a professional billing and collection system. With these changes DAWACO should be a strong company, which can supply the residents of Da Nang with good water at a consistent pressure.
In addition we are introducing a programme to provide house connections to the urban poor districts. 35 percent of the people in Da Nang have to rely on shallow ground water and surface water. This water is not safe and creates public health risks. Therefore Vitens-Evides International is trying to improve the supply of water to these districts.

Ho Chi Minh City
Project: Water Operator Partnership between the Saigon Water Supply Corporation, the municipal government of Ho Chi Minh City and Vitens Evides International
Duration: 2008 – 2011
Population: 8 million people
Budget: € 4.2 million
Vitens Evides International is working together with the Saigon Water Supply Corporation (SAWACO) to help them producing sufficient drinking-water for all the inhabitants of Ho Chi Minh City. We focus on the management and maintenance of the water production and professionalizing of the distribution tasks. At the moment people regularly report brown and black tap water and the pressure is very low. By improving the water treatment system and the distribution network SAWACO will be able to offer a good and consistent supply of water.
At the moment SAWACO produces about 325 million m3 drinking water per year. For 140 million m3 the company does not generate income. This is water is lost by leakages in the distribution network and connections tot the network which are not registered. When the non revenue water decreases, SAWACO will get a better financial position. This will make it possible for the company to further increase the production of drinking water with a good quality, so that more people can get access to save water. In addition, we want to introduce a programme to provide house connections to the urban poor districts.
